Did you catch us at the Eagles Parade?

Our new truck and the Cooney Brothers crew were proud to take part in Philadelphia history with the JAKIB Sports ESPN radio show as they broadcasted live from the Eagles Super Bowl Parade. The shiny new flatbed gave the Krause father and son duo a bird’s eye view of the festivities and offered protection from the crowds. Our very own warehouse manager, Jerry Davis, was even featured on the broadcast and interviewed by Amy McCormick from 6 ABC News about his involvement with Battlefields 2 Ballfields Officials Philly.

The energy at the parade was truly unforgettable, and we consider ourselves lucky to have been a part of it. Philly roots run deeply in the Cooney Brothers story. Since our founding in 1937, we were located in Philadelphia for 60 years before moving to our current location in Plymouth Meeting. We take pride in having served the city and tri-state area in every way we can for almost 90 years now. No matter what we are working on, we solve the community’s most unique problems by providing expert, creative solutions. So, when Joe Krause, founder of JAKIB Sports, came to us for help with their live broadcast from City Hall, we were ready to ‘swoop’ in and get the job done. Fast.

Jerry has taken the Cooney Brothers name and truck into multiple collaborations with JAKIB Sports, helping their listeners get to the frontlines of historical Philly moments since 2015. Joe knows firsthand that our reputation for responsiveness and above-and-beyond service does not just apply to our work in the PVF industry. We put in the work to solve every individual problem the Cooney way, no matter the time-crunch:

“The history of the Eagles and the history of Cooney Brothers are synonymous in time,” Joe explained. “It was only ‘fitting’ that Cooney Brothers was able to deliver, execute, and provide the flatbed for set-up less than 12 hours after the call.”

Cooney Brothers Truck     Cooney Brothers and JAKIB Sports Broadcast Set Up

As soon as Jerry asked Cooney Brothers President, Gerry Cooney, for approval to use the truck, he knew it would be an immediate yes. And sure enough, by the next morning, Gerry was already asking what we could provide to make this happen.

From arrival at 5 am to the start of the show at 10 am, Jerry worked tirelessly with the crew to get all the technical equipment ready for the best quality broadcast possible. While he was being put to work, Jerry couldn’t help but notice as more and more people started to gather around City Hall. The lively atmosphere was so palpable, it felt almost unreal at times, especially in a city that has been waiting for a victory like this. Watching the crowd build and seeing the excitement grow with every minute that passed was an experience the crew will never forget. It was admittedly Jerry’s favorite part of the day by far, noting that he heard his first Eagles chant of the day as soon as they arrived early in the morning and the energy only grew from there.

We dove straight in and started solving every problem that came our way from parade-eve all the way until the show went live on Friday. The truck needed railings to be approved by the city? No problem, Cooney Brothers’ versatile shipper/receiver and in-house handy man, Ed Lopez, was able to install wooden railings in just a few hours. The pre-show is having trouble connecting to the internet? We used brilliant thinking to save JAKIB’s cut-out audio by getting the Starlink connection set up on the very top of a tall pole that we had ready to go for this exact scenario. Every problem the crew ran into was solved.

“That’s what Cooney Brothers is all about”, Jerry spoke with pride. “I always say there’s a right way, there’s a wrong way, and there’s a Cooney way. We may not always do things the traditional way, but we always satisfy the customer and get them what they need. And we that’s what we did. We get the job done.”

Cooney Brothers Truck Front View

As part of JAKIB Sport’s media coverage, we ended up with an amazing shot of the parade and even some of the players like Nolan Smith. Our view was so front and center that we were positioned right next to the NBC 10 and 6ABC News teams!

Both teams were very friendly about sharing the space and Jerry even got to talk quite a bit with Lauren Mayk from Channel 10 and Annie McCormick from Channel 6. This gave Jerry two opportunities to talk about his work with the growing Philadelphia chapter of Battlefields to Ballfields as he spoke about the cause on the JAKIB live show and in an interviewed with McCormick.

Jerry recently founded B2B Officials Philly, a nonprofit organization that trains Veterans on how to be officials in organized sports. This is a cause close to Jerry’s heart as a Veteran himself who knows how much working in football officiation has helped him with PTSD. The nonprofit organization empowers Veterans by harnessing their unique skill sets into a new purpose, and this incredible personal and community impact is exactly why Jerry started the new chapter, Battlefields to Ballfields Officials Philly. He assembled a team of trainers, including Cooney insides sales representative, Sam Parisi, who have the expert knowledge and experience to take Vets of the Philadelphia and tri-state community from having absolutely no experience to landing on the field in no time. Whether it’s football, baseball, soccer, and more, Battlefields to Ballfields closely supports every individual throughout each step of training, leaving no one behind. Jerry stood out in the sea of green, sporting a neon Battlefields to Ballfields sweatshirt to promote the powerful cause. He proudly spoke about the Philadelphia Chapter to Joe and McCormick, detailing the positive direction the organization is already headed towards with its first success story. This vet recently finished training and is now happy to be an official for Jerry’s own high school football team!

Passion for the Philadelphia community is at the center of everything we do here at Cooney Brothers. Getting and staying locally involved is what sets us apart from other companies that are simply located in the community and nothing more. Without the city and people of Philadelphia, we would not be here today. There would be no Cooney Brothers. We proudly partner with local organizations like JAKIB Sports and Ballfields to Battlefields because we know that they value this city of brotherly love just as much as we do.

The JAKIB Sports broadcast being right in front of City Hall could not have been more perfect as their loyal listeners love this city and Philly sports with a dedication you can’t find anywhere else. Despite not knowing much about conducting a live radio show, the Cooney Brothers team was happy to do whatever we could to help make listeners feel like they were actually there with us, and not like they were just watching a spotty live stream. If you're still itching to see some of the action, visit JAKIB Sports' Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl Parade Live Stream on Youtube to watch the full stream and catch Jerry on the stream at around 1:11:30.

The fully successful show featured Joe Krause and his son, Zander, as the regular co-host, along with his daughter Isabel and Jerry as guest voices. The team commented live on the rising excitement of the crowd at City Hall with dual-camera angles capturing the set up on our truck and the elite view we had from on top of it. Joe was incredibly appreciative of everything we did to assist in making this momentous broadcast possible, stating that:

“Without Cooney Brothers, there would be no live coverage across JAKIB Sports capturing this historic Championship Parade”

No matter how unique the job is, Cooney Brothers is guaranteed to get it done!
