CRANE Lift Check Valves
Filter
Lift Check Valves are non-return valves that allows fluid to flow in one direction and prevents flow from moving backward. Lift check valves are very similar to swing check valves in function, but instead of a hinge that rotates the disc to fully open or close flow, they use a piston disc that is guided by pressure to lift for uninterrupted flow and drop for an enhanced seal.
The lifting function of the internal disc in lift check valves depends on the pressure exerted by the forward flow. If the inlet pressure of flow is higher than the outlet (cracking) pressure, the flow will lift the disc off its seat, allowing fluid to flow freely. However, when the upstream pressure drops, flow decreases as well and this makes gravity force the disc back onto the seat for a secure shut off, preventing backflow from entering the rest of the system. Lift check valves must be installed so that the inlet flow is on the lower side of the valve seat. While lift check valves can be installed in horizontal systems and select vertical systems, horizontal installations are most efficient because this tends to allow gravity to better support the open/close operations.
These valves are particularly suited to work with many fluid or gas systems including water, air, gas, and steam operations, particularly in high-pressure applications and extreme working environments where the velocity of flow is high. They are also advantageous for systems that need to maintain a certain pressure level since the automatic disc mechanism can detect and immediately counteract any drops in pressure by stopping flow completely. Some of the industries that utilize these backflow prevention and high velocity capabilities are water supply systems, irrigation, pumping stations, boiler systems, chemical processing, HVAC systems, fire protection, and marine applications. They are also commonly used in the high-rise buildings of industrial, power plant, water, wastewater applications.
